BDO in Poland – registration and obligations for companies based outside Poland
What is BDO in Poland?
BDO (Database on Products, Packaging, and Waste Management) is a national registry in Poland designed for companies that place products, packaging, or electrical and electronic equipment on the Polish market.
If your business is based outside of Poland and sells products to customers in Poland, you may be legally required to register in the BDO system and submit reports related to your business activity.

Does your company need to register in BDO Poland?
Your company must register in BDO if you are based outside Poland and:
- sell electrical or electronic equipment (including batteries) to customers in Poland (for example via online marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, Allegro, or your own online store),
- sell products in packaging to customers in Poland (including e-commerce and distance selling via Amazon or other online platforms).
Important: If you sell batteries or products containing batteries, you must account for both the batteries and their packaging in the BDO system.
Do you sell products to Poland via Amazon or other marketplaces?
In that case, you also have the obligation to register and comply with BDO regulations. We’ll help you meet these obligations quickly and efficiently.
How to register as a foreign company in BDO?
Foreign company with a branch in Poland:
- Registration is conducted through the Polish branch.
- An authorized representative submits the application through the BDO system or directly to the Marshal’s Office responsible for the branch’s registered address.
Foreign company without a branch in Poland:
- You must submit your application in writing to the Marshal of Mazowieckie Voivodeship.
- A signed form from the company’s legal representative is required.
- After registration, access to the BDO system (for updating data or submitting reports) is available via the National Electronic Identification Node (WKIE).
You may authorize a local representative with a Polish PESEL number and a Trusted Profile (Profil Zaufany) to act on your behalf.
What are the penalties for not registering in BDO?
Failure to register, despite being legally required, can result in penalties ranging from PLN 5,000 up to PLN 1,000,000. Fines are imposed by Polish administrative authorities.
